New Forest Atlases
The New Forest Atlases were created in order to map the extent of lands over which commoners of the New Forest had rights and the land to which these rights were attached.
The volumes, created following the 1949 and 1964 Acts, are being converted to an electronic form to enable the Verderers to manage the data more effectively in responding to queries and to relate the boundaries to modern mapping within a GIS system. The original documents are now held in the National Archive in Kew and these are scanned at high resolution to provide the basis for mapping the individual parcels.
